What is a Teutonized Alpine?
Did the Alpines in Germany breed with the Teutonic or Nordic peoples? I have ancestors who lived in Wilsleben,(now a part of Aschersleben) Germany. Her name was Wilhelmine Neue (maiden name Siedersleben) and I am trying to find if she was Teutonic. Is there any way to do that? We do not have any pictures of her so I do not know if she had blond hair and blue eyes. Wilhelmine's son was Karl Neue. Karl Neue's son (Curtis Neue) is the only one from that side of the family who we have a picture of. His skull looks somewhat Nordic, but his eyes seem dark (either Green or Hazel). His hair was straight and very dark brown or possibly black. Should I ask an Anthropologist, and how would I contact one to help me? Thank you so much in advance for your answers. i have been trying to figure this out for months and i have no family left alive to ask.
Nick, if you want to make Germans, take fifty Teutons, forty Slavs, and ten Romans. Then isolate them on an island for about three hundred years. They will not be completely mixed then, but to a very high extent, just like it was when your ancestors emigrated. You don't know what is hidden in their genes, and can't rely on the origin of their surnames anymore.
It's almost two thousand years ago that Roman soldiers and colonists mixed with the blond and blue-eyed Teutons in the south and west of Germany and became germanized themselves, like all the words and names they brought. But you can still find a lot of Slavic names. It is still easy to trace the old border between Teutonic and Slavic Germany on a map of today by comparing the names of towns and villages. Names ending with -in, -ig, -itz, -ow are usually Slavic, surnames as well as locational names. Names ending with -leben are of Old Thuringian descent.
