I have a problem with my Sound?
I recently Bought a Compaq at a Garage sale (Cheap) I get it home and set it up...i find out it has no sound on it at all ( I go to the start menu under sound and everything is Greyed out ) and so i go the start menu and find out i have a Boot leg copy of window's xp so i call both Compaq and Microsoft and they say i need a Product Key and Something else on the side of the computer.....well there is no Product Key and No CD's and there is nothing on the computer other then the model Number on the front.....
I go to both a Best Buy and a Circuit City here in my state and one guy says i have to buy Window's XP Home or Pro and an OEM would not work with out the sticker on the side and another says well you can just purchase an OEM or call compaq and ask for a restore disk for that model.....
I have no clue what to do and i am not exactly Computer Savvvy Please some folks lend me your advice i would really appreciate

You need to reinstall the sound drivers. Reinstalling WinXP is not the answer. Go to http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/ and look up your model of Compaq. Next download the drivers for your model and install from there.
