building a small block chevy?

OK i have a 1978 chevy C10 Big Ten 2wd with a 350 and a 12 bolt rear end
im gonna start from short block to tranny i would like a 350 or 383 where should i buy the block and witch one (i want i pc rear main seal)
what heads should i go with the victor jr intake,and the heads cant have the EGR that lil hole in teh middle or what ever,or emissions none of that,and what carb

for this build i want 400 too 450 HP and with tranny power glide or th400 and,what gear ratio i wanna drive on the street

383 will be best but does take more skill to build.. I say do a good 350 build now being your a newbi and use major parts that can be out onto a 383 later.

I recommend a 2 pc seal block cause parts are cheaper like the crank, oil pan, gaskets etc.

Yopu can get a used core engine from a junkyard local to you for $75-150, then take it apart and have a machione shop bore, hone, clean, check for cracks, install cam bearings and frost plugs for about $300

Top it off with an edelbrock performer RPM air gap intake. You don't want a vic jr or any other single plane intake on a combo like this in a truck as heavy as yours. 4160 or 4150 holley 750 cfm vac sec carb. Summit HEI dizzy.

This will be a STRONG combo that will make 450 + HP

And later on when you have more skill under your belt and want even more power you can rebuild the engine as a 383 and will only need to change the crankshaft, pistons and re cam it.. All the other parts will work just fine.

Oh yeah back this combo yup with a well prepped th-350 or th-400 transmission, 3,000 stall 10" torque converter, and min of 3.42 gears but 3.73s would be more at home.
