If you are a regular viewer of You Tube or any other video sharing site you have probably seen the videos that claim you can open your door using something as simple as a mobile phone or an even simpler tennis ball. With the top Melbourne Locksmiths, let us explore those myths, okay.

First of those myths is the cellular phone opening the door myth. In the video, you would find that they attempt to open a car using an electronic locking system. What the video is trying to show is that If you click on the door unlock button miles a way from the car and point it to a mobile phone that is calling another phone whose speaker is pointed towards the car, the door would open.

The theory behind this is that the radio signal being sent from the car remote will go through the phone and reach the other phone which will then send the signal through its speakers to the car. Upon initial assessment this may seem like a valid point since the phones can send radio signal through their network. However, this myth is nothing more than just another myth coursed through the web.

Although, radio signals or sound waves can indeed travel through the cellular network, mobile phones are not necessarily able to deliver all frequency. Modern cellular phones want to remove as much noise as possible and as such only allow frequency within the Human realms of speech. Auto car locks make use of frequency that is too high for the human ear much like a dog whistle.

The next myth that you would see in this viral videos and perhaps one of the more popular ones is the myth about a regular tennis ball being able to open a car door lock. In the video, a small hole is punched through one side of the tennis ball. Then, the lady in the video pushes the ball into key hole with the hole in the tennis ball pointing to the door lock. After one or two pushed the door is magically unlocked.

According to a top mobile locksmith, the theory is that the tennis ball would produce enough air pressure to open the door by pushing up the pins in the lock. However, there are some problems that would contradict these theories. For one thing, the air pressure in the tennis ball would not be strong enough to push the pins because they are pushed down by a strong spring.

The next thing that prevents the tennis ball from opening the door lock with air pressure is that it does not provide the strong air pressure long enough to push the pins of the door lock open all at the same time. In this case, the air merely moves in one direction quickly and the pins will fall back down without them engaging at the same time.

Lastly, the inside of a door lock is not pressurized. When air is pushed into the door lock it will just quickly dissipate within the car door without opening the door lock.

Great for light trimming but thick branches kill the battery

The pole saw is great for trimming a few small branches and has good reach and balance. Being battery powered, it is reasonably light weight and not tethered by a power cable. 

Larger branches (over 2" diameter) will cause it to struggle a bit and drain the battery very quickly - and then it takes 5 hours to reliably recharge. 

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase but it definitely has a limited use. We also have an 'alligator' saw for more heavy work which is great (albeit tied to the power cord). The two make a good combination for most light work around the yard.

Time for a battery chain saw

I'm in the 60 plus age category. I've been using gas powered chain saws all my life. I've been keeping away from the big power saws & using a saw-all for wood cutting. Leaving the big cutting to the young. 
Getting a pro-tree trimmer to come to your house to cut a few branches is impossible. Besides it would cost [...] bucks each time they visit. This saw is great, solid, has quite a bit of weight to it. Holding it up is no problem, well balanced. Just lay it on the branch & pull the trigger. Don't expect it to be like the big power saws but it does the job. (All the B&D saw-batteries are interchangable)

Broken Clamp

Purchased the pole saw June 2009, used several times to trim trees and was happy with the result. It was not very powerful but good enough for cutting branches 6' or less in diameter if you are not in a big hurry. Bring the saw out this summer to do more trimming and was ready to do a 5-star review on Amazon. Then this "clamp" broke on me. It is the part that allows the adjustment of chain tightness. The clamp has a pin that is 4mm thick & 7mm long which holds the bar in place. This pin broke off rendered the saw useless. This is the bad part of the story. 

Looked all over the reviews on Amazon and cannot find anybody who shared the same experience. Considered to fix it myself since it doesn't look too difficult as long as I have the part. Looked up online and find this fingernail size clamp cost only $0.97 but shipping costs $10.50. Since the saw is still under warranty, decided to test out that route. Found the only service center in Houston through web. Delivered the saw and was promised to get it back in 2 weeks through UPS. I was not pleased to see the rough handling of the saw by the service center clerk. Mixed feeling here. 

8 days later got the saw back from Black & Decker. This is the good part of the story. They sent me a brand new one. Since I only send in the saw & switch sections of the saw, I now have double of everything else, include the battery. 

4 stars for the uncertainty of the "clamp" & potential hassle of fix it.

Great saw, exceeded my expectations.

I needed a pole saw but did not want to spend $600 for a gas unit. I saw the reviews on this and decided to give it a try. 
My first time using it I pruned 6 very large palms (over 40' tall & with the help of a ladder). Still had battery life left...not sure how much left till 
I have to recharge but this saw certainly impressed me. Came with a very handy storage case (soft case). But now 
I'll put it away and not worry about gas going bad etc, like I would with a gas saw. I would highly recommend it.

Pleasantly Surprised

I was quite hesitant to purchase this ... I wasn't sure how well a battery operated pole saw could really work. But, I have several other B&D battery operated items (weed whacker, leaf blower, etc.), and so far have been pleased with all of them. This was no exception. I don't have a lot of upper body strength, but I am able to support the weight of this easily. I am careful to check the chain for tightness and oil, and haven't had any problems thus far. It cuts through branches that are quite large without issue. Now, if someone could just invent one that hauls away the branches when you're done!

I bought this to help with the clean-up from last winter's ice-storm damage, and so far, have been very pleased. The motor seems to have ample power, and it cuts well. I was afraid the saw on the end of a 14 foot pole would be too heavy and unweildy, but is is surprisingly easy to keep it balanced. I was also pleased to note that, as soon as you release the trigger, the chain stops with no "coasting". And its nice ,too, that the B & D batteries will interchange with my hedge trimmer and string trimmer, so its easy to go to work with any one of them with extra batteries. Highly recommended.

The Black and Decker cordless limb cutter works exactly as advertised. The tool is very easy to assemble and work with. If you follow the directions in the owners manual you will have no problem cutting limbs with this tool. I have recommended this tool to friends of mine, one of which already ordered one from Amazon.com. The carrying case takes a little practice to get the broken down unit inside, but has plenty of room one the tool has been stored. Great tool and well worth the cost.
