Before looking at the Smith machine home gym lets firstly look at what is a smith machine in the home gym context.
Essentially a smith machine is made up of a barbell which is fixed within steel rails and which only moves vertically. It was invented by Jack La Lanne who fixed one up in his gym in the 1950s and bodybuilder Rudy Smith subsequently improved on the original design.
The major benefit of the smith machine is that you do not need a spotter when working out because there is a series of slots on which the barbell can be hooked and secured. You only need to twist your wrist to lock the barbell in place thus increasing safety enormously for weight lifters.
Some smith machines also feature a block which can be set up to stop the barbell at a pre chosen minimum height. Generally a smith machine will allow a weight lifter or someone working out a greater degree of safety and protection than the regular barbell.
However a criticism of the smith machine is that it restricts the body to a single range of motion and as a consequence the proper body form is not being used which means the stabilization muscles are not being strengthened which in turn means that transferring your performance from the smith machine to free weights can be erratic.
Furthermore the failure to use the proper form can lead to injury when trying to transfer performance from the smith machine to free weights because you will be using muscles with free weights which may not have been sufficiently developed because of the use of the smith machine.
Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings
The Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings sells for around $800 on Amazon which is a massive $1,000 saving. It features a non slip foot brace for seated row exercises, adjustable bar catches and safety stoppers, a dual action leg developer and row/curl bar and linear bearings with machined steel guide rods that make for a real smooth movement.
It is made from a heavy duty tubular steel frame and has a 7 degree slant to allow upper and lower body movements. It also boasts commercial grade bar and pop pins adjustment and safety catches.
It also has 6 olympic storage pegs and a range of accessories with an off the floor base frame design which improves stability. Most users of this smith machine home gym cite the quality and price as being big pluses; the negatives include the build time and the absence of an Olympic weight set.
Weider 875 Commercial Smith Rack & Bench
This Weider system has a $500 discount on Amazon right now from it's recommended retail price of $1,300 and it features a 4 post cage design with a strong utility bench and adjustable seat bottom.
It also has 2 high swivel pulleys and a low pulley with row plate and a smith bar with linear bearings. It also has a leg developer, curl bar and preacher pad.
Caribou III System
The caribou III system sells for $1159 on Amazon which is a fair price for what is a serious piece of home gym equipment. It features a chin up bar, self oiling bushings, and integrated dip station mount, free low row foot plate and Olympic adapters for the smith bar.
One of the advantages of the Caribou III system is that you can add to the system as you grow eg cable cross, dip station and pec deck.
One criticism of this machine is that it is a little small as you can't use the bench with the back upright to support shoulder presses because the bench can't slide deep into the rack but this machine is designed to fit into most private residences and that may explain why it is a little smaller than what you might come across in the gym.

Choosing Your Prepaid Visa Travel Card
The prepaid Visa travel card is the newest convenient tool for travelers. This is the closest you will ever get to immediate spending that is also safe and secure. Here's what you need to know about finding a card provider.
Visa Benefits
In general, you will get similar major card benefits wherever you get it. When it comes to the benefits of Visa, all vendors are more or less equal. Here's what you can expect from a Visa TravelMoney card:
- The travel card from Visa eliminates the need for cash on hand. This means you reduce the risk of misplacing your money or losing it to pickpockets. You can use your Visa travel card in ATMs and establishments that accept Visa in any country.
- As a cardholder you also enjoy the safety and security guaranteed by Visa. Your signature and PIN are your first lines of defense. You can also rely on the U.S. Bank Zero Liability. When your card is stolen or lost it can be replaced and you can even get your balance back. A secondary card option is another way to protect yourself if you lose your card.
- Since the card is prepaid, you don't need to put all your monetary assets in one account. You can load your card with just the right amount for your trip. If you do run short though, this card offers you the option of reloading.
- With Visa, you have extra perks. You can take advantage of travel and emergency services or reimbursement of lost luggage.
Vendor Differences
Card providers can't just make changes in the prepaid Visa travel card benefits. Even with equal benefits though, there may be some points you can use to help you determine the best card provider.
- Of course, there will always be fees to obtain a card before you can even use it. Among some providers, fees are higher if you obtain a card and you are not a regular client of the bank. You might be able to save cash if you obtain the card from a provider with which you also maintain an account.
- Other fees also vary across providers. Some of the fees that you would have to look at include processing fee, shipping cost, enrollment fee, reload fee, card personalization fee and secondary card cost. Some providers do not charge their regular clients a preliminary enrollment fee.
- The prepaid cash values are not the same. In most cases, there is a reload cap of $5,000 but different providers have different minimum values.
- Although there are many vendors, not all of them present the product in the same way. You would probably have a better experience if you buy from a vendor who takes pains to provide you with comprehensive product information as well as customer assistance.
Traveling for business or leisure should always be worry free. That's why you should get yourself a prepaid Visa travel card. Ask your provider now for more information on this fabulous card.

When i turned right i heard a loud clunking noise, lubed up the caliber now it happens over bumps.?
Recently purchased car from dealer, its a 2004 mitsubishi lancer oz rally edition. I've only had the car for 4 1/2 months and already have replaced control arm bushings in the back. I think this problem has something to do with the suspension. When i come to a stop it was making a grinding squeeking noise and when i turned to the right it was making a clunking noise. I was told that the clunking noise could have been a seized caliber (or caliber pins) I got the caliber serviced and now the squeeking has stopped but now the same clunk noise is happening when i go over bumps and sometimes when i turn right. Any ideas?
If you already had the caliper serviced, inner and or outer tie rod ends should also be checked or play. If there's play, replace the neccesary parts. You can do it yourself to save on labour cost. they're easy to replace but you would have to get the alignment done after changing the parts. also check the sway bar link bushing(this could be the cause of that thumping noise). My car(03 OZ) did the same thing. Just last month, I replaced inner and outer tie rod ends, ball joints, new sway bar link kits(for the front suspension). Now the car feel like new, all the noises stopped when turning or going over bumps.
