Here are some more information for Quarter Window:

Orchids have been a highly popular plant for home horticulturists for many, many years. Since caring for orchids was assumed to be difficult, for a long time orchids were thought to be the special property of the rich and of other lucky hobbyists who had plenty of spare time and money to devote to these elegant flowers.
Although many types of orchids do have some special needs that must be met in order to thrive, with a little research on the Internet, the orchid hobbyist can successfully grow a garden of orchids at home. Even better, you don't have to go into debt doing it: orchid plants used to be quite expensive, but now they are available at many local nurseries or home gardening outlets at very reasonable prices.
The appeal of orchids is undeniable. The flowers' distinctive shapes are remarkable, and the variation and patterns of color are delightful. The added novelty of these plants being able to naturally grow imbedded halfway up a tree trunk adds some extra fascination.
So, how does an orchid "newbie" take the first step into the world of orchid growing? It's probably a good idea to start your adventure with an orchid that's suited for beginners. An excellent choice is the Phalaenopsis, or "moth orchid." You should have no problem finding this plant at your local nursery, or even a plant fair.
Look for a healthy plant. Choose one whose leaves are shiny and free of pests and damage. Don't reject a plant just because you can see some of the roots. Phalaenopsis orchids are epiphytes, or air plants, and their roots need air circulation in order for the plant to thrive. If you see any of the roots, be sure that they look plump and healthy.
Buy a plant that already has some flowers blooming. You'll want to know what to expect when the plant blooms in your home, and you will want to be sure that the plant you are getting is capable of producing flowers.
Notice what sort of mixture the orchid is planted in. It's not planted in soil like most houseplants. Most often it will be planted in a mixture of bark bits, sphagnum moss and other light materials. Be careful not to suffocate the orchid's roots with the wrong mixture when it comes time to re-pot.
Once you have the plant at home, place it in a spot with plenty of daylight but not direct sun. A spot near an east or west facing window is ideal for a Phalaenopsis. Orchids need higher humidity than people find comfortable in most homes, so place the orchid pot in a tray that is filled with gravel and a low level of water. As the water evaporates, it humidifies the air immediately around the orchid. If you prefer, invest in a small humidifier just for the orchid.
Orchids needs air circulation. One effective technique is to keep the plant in a room with a ceiling fan and leave the fan on low. Alternately, a small fan placed near the orchid would do just fine.
Be careful not to kill your orchid with kindness by over watering. Let the phalaenopsis medium dry out to the point of just being damp before you water, and let the extra water run off.
Use a plant food with an 18-18-18 mix, with no urea. Feed orchids one-quarter to one-half the amount recommended for other houseplants.
Watch for any color changes in the orchid's leaves. If they begin to turn yellow and the plant starts to look unhealthy, the plant is getting too much light. If the leaves become dark green, the plant isn't getting enough light and it won't flower.
Phalaenopsis orchids like a temperature range of about 80 degrees in the daytime and not lower than 60 degrees at night. If your orchid is going to be placed close to a window and the nights are cold, move it to a warmer area at night or mask the window with some kind of insulation. Do allow the air temperature around the orchid to drop at night, otherwise the plant won't flower.
There are some things to watch out for when caring for orchids, but with a little practice, it will become second nature. You'll have orchids to truly be proud of that will brighten your home for years to come.

Modern Windows Equal Energy Savings and Value
Windows can make a dramatic statement and can modify the face of your house noticeably. Windows help to define a room's focal point, establish the room's shape and provide air flow. They may be set or functional, which means you may have windows that simply act as adornment as well as permit sunlight to filter through their panes, or they may also open to allow ventilation. These windows can come in traditional shapes or unusual designs. Picking the perfect windows for your home involves a substantial amount of preplanning. Ask yourself what architectural styles you're trying to convey and whether or not you want to be able to slide up the window for air. Looking at magazines or checking out house tours will give you additional ideas. Going to your local hardware store will also show you possibilities.
There are many sorts of windows on the market and knowing them by name will give you a means to ask for what you want. Many use double-hung windows because they are traditional in appearance and provide you the capability to open either the lower or the upper sash. A casement window swings out and is hinged on one side. Slider windows, constructed from two separate sashes, open halfway. In addition, hopper windows and louvered windows are very similar; the hopper opens from the bottom while the louvered opens at the top. Round-top windows generate architectural accents to your home. They come in a selection of sizes and shapes such as full, half-quarter round, oval, elliptical and gothic. The bay window is a favorite when used next to sitting areas or breakfast rooms. These windows present wonderful views and give a room a pleasant character. Many use glass block windows in inside or exterior walls. They afford the homeowner with natural lighting and maximum privacy. An additional window type to think about is the Palladian, which consists of several windows and form a type of design. There are many windows to choose from and once you have constructed your design choice, it is time to pick out the type of pane and glass.
Many homeowners question if buying double-pane insulated widows merits the cost. The answer to this question is contingent on where the house is situated. Double-pane windows are very important when trying to save money on energy bills. However, if you live in an environment that has a mild climate, the savings can be minimal. Double-pane windows treated with a special coating known as low-e will reduce the quantity of heat in summer months. Be mindful when buying low emissivity windows, because in the southern states the coating must be applied to the outside of the inside pane of glass and in the northern states it must be on the inside surface of the outside glass. This is to retain heat during the winter and keep heat out during the summer. Using the proper windowpane will save you utility costs, protect your upholstery from fading and be easier to clean.
