Since retrieval from the hands of BMW, Rover has become Britain's biggest domestically-owned car maker. Despite being financially challenged, the company is building a lot of fine cars, the classic lines of the 75 and much attention to build quality has ensured the model still remains a favorite with executive car buyers, and even the ageing 25 was given a new lease of life when designer Peter Stevens turned out a new variant, Streetwise. A replacement of 25 and 45 models-both of which are based on relatively ancient Honda models from the era when Rover was allied to that manufacture-is promised the near future, but in the meantime Rover has re-entered the pocket-sized car market place thanks to a joint venture with Indian manufacturer Tata which led the City Rover. The 75V8, which uses a sophisticated 4.6 litre power unit beneath its bonnet; this is simply shoe-horning a large engine into the front of the car., as the V8 will break Rovers front wheel drive tradition by putting its power through the rare wheels. Financial security is still someway off, but the future of Rover is cautiously optimistic. 75 When it was launched, this car surprised observers- here was the Rover that could stand tall with the products of then-owner BMW. A healthy range of front drive cars- all of which have a high level of credibility- has joined the super new V8. It has sophisticated Ford engine in the front, driving it out through the rear wheels. Despite the raised ride height handling is still surprisingly good, and there is a choice of engine options designed to meet the insurance-led economic strictures faced by Britain's youth. The inside is equally special with four bucket seats and a high-quality audio system. Cool Dude. Interestingly, despite its youth appeal, most seem to be bought by mid-life crisis sufferers.

Range Rover Classic Reliability?
I am looking into buying a Range Rover Classic. These are almost always high mileage vehicles, so their reliability is questionable. How do they perform once the mileage is high? Any mechanical problems to be aware of?
Oh, be quiet everybody. You don't know what you are talking about. If I hear one more JD Power quote from another yuppie I am going to scream.
You people are the reason they have a bad yuppie reputation. Can't change your own oil or lube a driveshaft. Can't even be bothered to take it somewhere and have it done.
Ever wonder just WHY there are so many old Rovers hanging around? Ever wonder just WHY you can't find them in junk yards?
Ever wonder just WHY countless people have happily and reliably hauled them all over the world in the harshest climates nature can offer? Hmmmmm?
I'm one of those people, and I've lived with them all. Classics included. I've taken a classic, same engine you get here in the states, with 400,000 miles on it, all over Africa. It had spent it's entire life in a mine in the bush, hauling trailers full of rocks around since the day it was purchased and driven out there. It had chased elephants out of camp, been attacked by bandits too many times to count, and had lead a life that would destroy a Chevrolet in 10,000 miles.
Don't give me one ounce of nonsense about them being unreliable.
The Rhino Challenge rally in Kenya is chock full of Range Rover Classics. Same aluminum V8, same axles, same everything. I know, I've been there.
Rovers will go forever with good care. Even with bad care, a Rover will run poorly for far longer than most cars will even run. A normal vehicle will go for 100-150,000 miles with little maintenance. After that, it will be a useless basket case for a while before either rotting in a rednecks yard or being towed off for scrap.
A rover will run forever with frequent care. Yuppies wouldn't know about that, being cooped up in the office all the time.
People who actually know what they are talking about never read JD Power or Consumer reports, EVER.
