How can I make my 2001 Corolla CE "cool" without going "rice"?

My grandpa passed away two years ago and left his car to me as his legacy.
I want to breathe some life into the boring beige interior/exterior without going "rice"

(rice = loud mufflers, non-functional bodykits/spoilers, wal-mart spinners etc.)

I'm a big dubstep fan so I'm looking into getting a couple 10 inch woofers, a few tweeters, a new deck, amps, car alarm, as well as some black 17" 5zigens.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your grandpa. First off are you looking to just fix the cosmetics of the vehicle? Or suspension & handling? Or everything? If your looking to just upgrade the look to be more modern I guess you can say there is a few subtle things you can do. Front lip spoiler, new headlights, depending on size of wheel you might also want to think about lowering the vehicle and upgrading the shocks while your at it.

I've seen a few lips on Ebay right now that look very simple and flows w/ the car, prices range from 50-100, on the headlights don't install those angle eyes IMO those are hideous on any car except BMW's, I've seen a few floating around on Ebay that are very simple and factory looking.

On the springs there are so many choices, TEIN, H&R, Skunk 2, Tanabe, anyone of these are good brands, on shocks, you can go w/ Tokico shocks or KYB. On the brake pads, you can use Hawk or EBC, both good brands. On rotors you can switch out your factory rotors and throw on some Powerslot cross drilled or slotted or both. 5Zigens are good wheels, I had some on my Integra before, other good choices would be Volk, Work or SSR. On the size just make sure you do your research on it, might want to check out Toyotanation.com or any other Corolla or Toyota forums that are big.
