Cadillacs are the premiere luxury vehicle, synonymous with style and class. It is produced by General Motors, and is one of the most sought after luxury cars in the United States. As proof, you only have to look at the many Hollywood stars that wouldn't be caught dead without their Cadillac! This famous car is also big with the Park Avenue set, giving it a mass appeal. There are ten different models to choose from in the Cadillac series, including its much-famed SUV, the Escalade.
Cadillacs come in three different versions - the four-door sedan- CTS (C-Series Touring Sedan), STS (Seville Touring Sedan), and Cadillac DTS (DeVille Touring Sedan).
Cadillac Sedans
The CTS helped launch the Cadillac brand's popularity among the younger generations throughout the 90's and the early part of the twenty-first century. It is the smallest of the Cadillac models, but boasts a very powerful 3.6 liter V-6 engine. In fact the 2008 model has been tested at 258 horses and 252 lf-ft of torque! First revealed at the North American International Auto Show in January 2007, the 2008 CTS will be available by the end of the fall.
Optional features will also include swiveling headlights, along with Bose premium audio, remote start, and iPod integration. The STS has a 3.6 L High Feature LY7 V6 engine, with 255 hp. It also comes as a 4.6 L Northstar LH2 V8, and with 320 hp. The remote ignition is standard, while the 300-Watt Bose stereo system with MP3 is optional. The DTS goes still higher in defining luxury and has safety features like eight airbags, and Xenon high power headlamps; it has superior luxury features like leather seating, and power seats - both of which are standard.
Optional features include navigation system, MRC (magnetic ride control), for a smoother ride, as well as a moon roof, chrome wheels, heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. All these features are bound to make the mundane business of driving pure pleasure.
Cadillac SUVs
The famous Cadillac Escalade is a full size SUV, which competes directly with Ford's Lincoln Navigator, which was released in 1998. The Escalade features an all-aluminum 6.2 L Vortec V8 with Variable Valve Timing, and produces 403 hp of power and 417 lb of torque. It comes with rear wheel drive, as well as an all-wheel drive. While the ESV is a stretch version of the standard Escalade, with more room at the back, the EXT is a pickup truck and features a "Convert-a-Cab" composite pickup bed.
The EXT, along with the CTS, was featured in The Matrix Reloaded chase scene, which helped boost sales for the company and cement it's standing among the Hollywood elite.
The SRX is a mid-sized crossover utility vehicle, featuring five, as well as six speed automatic transmission. The V8 has a 4.6 L 320 hp engine, and has heated front seats and wood interior trim as standard features. Available options include DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a foldable third-row seat.
For those who have a need for speed, Cadillac offers the XLR, which is a 2-door coupé convertible. It can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, and hit 100 mph in just 11.3 seconds. Reaching upward of $100,000 with upgrades, this is the most expensive car from the GM stable.
Whether you're every move is followed by a pack of paparazzi or you are just another "Joe quality-vehicle-lover", Cadillac proves there is no need to go over the pond for the finer things in life.
Ronald Packingger lives in the Sacramento California area and is a Cadillac CTS [http://www.hubacher.com/cts.cfm] enthusiast. When looking for a Folsom Cadillac dealer offering the best deals through the Internet, he recommends Hubacher of Sacramento.
What the New Enclave Brings for Buick
For the 2008 model year, Buick’s lineup is being revitalized by parent General Motors. Just like the surging Saturn brand, the Buick lineup is given a new crossover SUV in the form of the much heralded Buick Enclave. The Enclave is related to the new GMC Acadia and the Saturn Outlook. This full size crossover SUV is the highest priced among the three and it shows in its exterior and interior styling cues and features.
The three crossover SUVs were based on the new General Motors Lambda platform. The Enclave is designed to look bulky - a promise that it has adequate interior space which it has. Even though the Enclave is based on the same platform as the Outlook and the Acadia, the newest Buick is easily recognizable as a Buick. This is because of its trademark waterfall grilles and portholes.
The Enclave competes in the luxury crossover SUV segment. Facing tough competition from domestic and foreign brands, the Enclave is designed to offer a luxurious interior with traditional Buick styling cues which have been integrated into the vehicle. One of the strong selling points of the Enclave is indeed its size.
The Enclave is designed to seat either seven or eight passengers. The eight-seater Enclave is an option for consumers who are looking for a vehicle which can accommodate more passengers. Aside from providing adequate space for its passengers, the Enclave also offers adequate cargo space and such is a feature that many car buyers are considering when purchasing a vehicle.
The waterfall grille and portholes on the hood of the enclave is reminiscent of Buicks produced by the company after the Second World War. With a look back at the styling cues of the past, Buick is aiming to rekindle the passion of Americans toward American made vehicles. The exterior design of the Enclave is based on one theme - chrome. Although the 2008 Enclave comes in different body colors, chrome is extensively used which tends to accentuate the styling cues employed by General Motors in the development of the Enclave.
Although at first glance, the Enclave has a tendency to look like a Volvo, further inspection reveals that the Enclave has an identity of its own. The headlight configuration gives the Enclave a not so aggressive look but such perfectly complements the bulge on the hood. The bulge of the hood of course signifies that something powerful lurks beneath the metal hood.
On the back, the Enclave has a good stance. Although its dual exhaust looks disturbingly like that of a certain Volvo model, the rear accented in the middle by a Buick emblem is relatively unique. The horizontal taillight which can be fitted with a taillight cover accentuates the rear glass window.
Inside the hood, one can find a 3.7-liter V6 engine with a capacity of producing 275 horsepower. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The powerplant used on the Enclave is a High Feature engine, a classification of General Motors engine that was first used on the 2004 Cadillac CTS sedan. Other noteworthy vehicles which have been equipped with the same engine are the Cadillac SRX, the Buick LaCrosse, the Saturn Aura and of course, the new Saturn Outlook and the GMC Acadia. Stability and handling are also focused on by the makers of the Enclave to present the newest competitor in the luxury crossover SUV class.
