How can I diffuse a "country blue" counter top with wall color/trim color/etc.??

We are buying a house that unfortunately has "country blue" (a lightish grey-type of blue) counter tops in the kitchen. There are nice natural oak colored cabinets, however. We won't be able to afford to change the counter tops for quite a while so I am wondering if anyone can suggest a way of painting the walls (what color?), or something else, to help diffuse or detract from the ugly blue counters.

The cabinets are natural wood, I should say. Not just oak "colored".

You can put just about any color you desire with the countertop you described. I've used yellow and red both and they looked wonderful. Mauve, Maroon or Emerald/Hunter green would all tone down the greg/blue you have.
