Here are some more information for Toyota Tercel:

There is nothing more frustrating than getting in your car after a hard day's work, turning the key to your chariot of freedom... and nothing happens. Or getting up, fighting with the kids to get them ready and finally out the house and when you turn the key you just get a click, click, click, click. If your 4 year old is like mine he's still asking what's wrong with the car, did you break it? Finding this situation in your lap can be frustrating and make you scream what's wrong with my car? Usually it's a simple problem that just take's the right resources and of course a little moolah.
Like I always say, knowing is half the battle. Unless you know or are interested in knowing about repairing vehicles it's just best to leave the diagnosis and repair up to professionals, or at least the guy you trust to answer what's wrong with my car. Whatever the decision, you have to come to peace with the fact your car is probably in good hands. It helps you sleep that night when your Service Advisor calls to tell you that the part didn't come in and they need to keep it another day. I know. He said it would be ready this afternoon, but how was he to know that they would send him the wrong part in the right box. Now you are suspicious of these characters and worrying yourself to death about the people they get their parts from and how am I going to get to work in the morning? What's wrong with my car?.....You get the picture. So trust your decision.
Being that humans are going to diagnose what's wrong with my car and not a keyword hungry computer, knowing what information to give to the advisor can speed things along drastically. It's the difference between telling a treasure hunter that there is a rumor of a map, and actually giving the treasure hunter a map. In other words all the information you can give him gets him to the gold (your car) quicker. When you say what's wrong with my car you have to mentally take in the picture and relay the picture you took in your head to the advisor. Although when disaster strikes how can you remember details, all you're thinking is what's wrong with my car?
Here are some key things that you will need to know that can help speed the situation up:
What sound did your car make when you turned the key?
1. Was it silent? If it was:
· Does any of the electrical items work (radio, horn)?
· Did the light's on the dash come on?
2. Did it crank but just wouldn't start-up? If so:
· Did it crank normal?
· How long did it crank strong before the battery became weak?
Did it make a sound at all because remember with the technology of today's vehicle's, a click under here or a buzz over there could actually mean something. The technology of today's vehicles simply mean that you could have about 30 computer's in your car talking to each other, all in hope's to satisfy your every demand...yep, even a '86 Toyota Tercel is itching to satisfy you in some way.
When you turn your key and your car is silent most likely there is an electrical problem. Something is not getting a signal because of a roadblock in the system. And most likely the roadblock is a part that needs to be replaced. It can be as simple as the battery is dead and needs to be replaced to a sensor just needs to be replaced. Yeah there can be a lot of things in between and this is when you find out if the people you trust with your car are indeed the right people. Not having the proper diagnostic tools and ability can cause you a lot of money in parts being thrown at the vehicle in hope's one will stick and fix the problem.
I can list so many parts and issue's that could make a car not start that to start would be pointless. I don't won't you upset with your advisor when they say the problem is not what your cousin said the problem was with your vehicle, when you asked him what's wrong with my car?
Now, let's talk for a sec about something I like to call the dominoes effect. A lot of times when a battery goes dead there was a reason, not just the battery life is finished. The alternator in your vehicle is used to recharge the battery while you use the car and all of its electronics. The alternator is powered by a belt and pulley system that is spun by the engine, which means while the engine is running it's turning the alternator and in turn the alternator is charging the battery. If this (Serpentine) belt breaks, which they do, you may not know it until you come out the store and your car won't start because the battery is dead. If your alternator stops working the battery will be dead also. This is because your battery has been running all of those computers and whatever else you had on in the car without getting the constant charging it needs. Without this constant charge the battery won't have enough juice to start the car the next time.

Vehicle Maintenance
When should you get an oil change? How long in between service should you wait before you have your tires and wheels rotated and balanced? How much will all of this cost? How much can you expect to pay each time? These are all things to consider when thinking about vehicle maintenance. Additionally, did you know that it is actually bad to drive your vehicle when it is almost out of gasoline?
Before you purchase a car, you should really stop to think about all of the possible ways that you will have to spend money on your vehicle. For instance, with certain cars, the price tag may say one thing, but then you will later find out that it costs a significant amount of money to make any repairs to the car depending on where it was manufactured, what features your vehicle has and the number of dealerships and/or service centers that there are in the area who are capable of knowing exactly how to service your car.
My mother used to take her old Toyota Tercel to a local mechanic that she was friends with. However, when my father bought her a brand new Honda with updated electrical features in it, the next time she took it in for service to her local mechanic, he wasn't trained in how to service an updated car like hers that had a brand new electrical system that he wasn't used to, so he referred her to the dealership where my father purchased the car. No matter what type of vehicle you own in your life, you will inevitably have to take it in for routine maintenance. Whether it is for something as simple as an oil change or whether it is for something more serious such as a transmission check, your vehicle will more than likely have to be serviced.
When you do eventually bring your car in, you are going to have to make sure that you have enough money to cover the expenses. Additionally, before you purchase a car, you should make sure that you know what it is that you want to buy when you are looking for a vehicle. Be smart about it and make sure that you do all of the research ahead of time. For instance, if you know that you do a lot of driving, then a sport utility vehicle is probably not a wise choice. If you have children or are thinking of having children, then purchasing a sports car may not be the best idea either. The more research that you do ahead of time, the more likely it is that you will save yourself not only money and time but also the hassle of having to deal with car dealerships, unnecessary repairs or surprise costs for owning your vehicle.
There are things that every car owner has to deal with. For example, you will have to make sure that you keep up with getting your oil changed. While there has been an increase in the price of oil, it is still a relatively affordable procedure that you can keep up with when it comes to maintaining your vehicle. If you are planning on taking a long trip anywhere, always make sure that you check your tire pressure and make sure that your oil is changed. The last thing that you want is to break down on a road in the middle of nowhere!

resurfaced head on 97 toyota tercel put everything back together and car wont start need help?
replaced all gaskets, water pump, heater hoses, timing is right on, has compression, has spark, has fuel and new oil and oil filter. Car turns over but won't start. Makes a sound like the battery is dead but has a fully charged battery. The car is a 97 Toyota Tercel 2dr sedan, 4 cyl., 1.5L. All wires and hoses are hooked up and in the right spot. Can't figure out what is wrong.
Your timing sounds like it is 180 degrees out. The valves are not opening at the right times, so the compression inside the engine is keeping it from turning over correctly.
#1 Cyl has to be at TDC on the compression stroke, not the exhaust stroke.
Good Luck!
Cheers!
