Of all the painting jobs you might have to do at home painting the exterior trim of your home can be one of the tougher jobs. Because you're generally painting small and fiddly surfaces it's going to take more preparation and a lot more time overall. Painting the trim of your house properly can really be the finishing touch to an exterior painting project well done. Of course if you mess up it can make your home look pretty crappy so prep, prep, prep!
You'll need to mask off the area around the trim if you're painting the trim first - just to stop splashes of paint. The same is true if you're painting your walls first - you'll need to mask off the trim areas to make sure they don't get splatters of paint that you'll have remove or sand away later. Save yourself work now by preparing properly.
Windows are going to be one of your biggest headaches because they're usually so difficult to mask. Even though it's time consuming to mask panes of glass off properly you're still going to be better off doing this than spending hours later on carefully scraping off specks of paint. Plus you run the risk of actually scratching the glass itself. Not something you want.
When you're painting the exterior of your house then you really need to take weather conditions into account. If it's rained in the last few days then you'll need to wait 2 - 3 days for the walls to have dried out properly. It doesn't even need to be wet for problems to happen - dampness is enough to cause chaos when you're painting outside.
You'll also need to pay attention to the temperature outside before you start painting. If it's too hot then the paint can bubble and blister. If it's too cold the paint can actually wrinkle. In general cold weather means that it's going to take longer for your paint to dry too. Take all this into account before you start and check the weather forecast for the next 72 hours just to be sure.
So even though you want to get started painting straight away painting the outside of your home is pretty different to the way you paint inside. It's worth taking the time to prepare properly though - the final result will be worth it.
Are you tired of how your house or apartments looks right now? Boring and drab right? Give your home a makeover with a new coat of paint. If you're not sure where to start then try some of our painting ideas to get you started. Get more painting info and tips here -> http://www.paintsplashes.com
How To Trim Your Dog Toenails
Trimming your dog toenails is a part of the grooming process but easily forgotten by most of us.
It is important to trim the toenails otherwise they will be over grown and arched; it will hurt the dog feet.
We may think that if we walk the dog often enough, their toenails should be automatically filed down. This may be true provided you are walking them regularly and on rough surface.
But some dogs have what it is called a dew claw. This is a special toenail or claw growing inside the paw and does not touch the ground so you definitely have to trim it else it will grow into a curve nail and may even poke its paw.
So how do you go about trimming the dog toenails?
Most dogs are not comfortable with this trimming process so the best way to go about it is to start when they are young puppies.
You can start by getting the puppy comfortable in either a sitting or lying down position. Play with it by holding onto its paws and use your fingers to touch the toenails. And slowly introduce the special dog nail clipper or trimmer by showing it to the puppy. Repeat this process a few times and over a few days until both you and the puppy are ready to trim the toenails.
I must emphasize that this process of getting your puppy used to your holding its paws and the sight of the toenail trimmer is very important. Otherwise, you will be struggling with your puppy and when you cut into its vein and it bleeds, the puppy will be scare or paranoid when the next time you touches its paw.
So how much should you trim the toenails?
If the puppy toenails are white then it is easy to see the veins inside and you should trim slightly below it. It may be easier to trim bit by bit if you are not sure.
If the puppy toenails are black and you cannot see the veins, then you have no choice but to trim it bit by bit and look into the inside or circumference of the toenail. Continue trimming it if it is entirely white.
There are also a few types of toenail trimmer. The typical ones look like a pair of scissors but there are new trimmers that are even battery operated but they do make a grinding noise due to the motor so it make irritate your puppy.
Finally, when you hear clicking or scratching sound when your puppy or dog is walking then it is time to have its toenails trimmed.

can you trim a rug without having it fray all over the place?
i have a cheap rug i got at walmart, and i wanted to trim it into a neat shape and then dye it a cool color, so its not a beige rectangle. *eew* i was wondering if it were possible to do this and if it is if there is a certain technique to doing so.
*note* i already know how to dye it so please i dont need help with that, just the cutting of the rug.
hahaha cut the rug.
There are very few rugs that can be cut without risking fraying, so err on the side of caution and assume yours will fray. Call a local rug shop and ask how much they charge for machine-binding. It can be done quickly and cheaply (we charge about $3 a linear foot for this). On the flip side, if you have patience, wool yarn, strong hands and the right tools, you can hand bind this yourself. Get yourself a sharp, sturdy needle. Buy some wool yarn the same color (or dye some to match) and start binding by literally wrapping the wool around and around the entire edge, pushing the needle through each time. The trick is to use pliers to hold the needle and push it through the rug. It will take you a while, and you'll probably break a few needles, but it will work and afterwards, you can find work at a rug shop
Best of luck!
