MacKenzie also cited several improvements in Silverado like the 5.3-liter V8 engine that can shift into V-4 mode for greater mileage per gallon. In choosing Silverado, Motor Trend also looked into the truck's value for its price. "Prices for most Silverado models have increased only about $300 from 2006 levels," MacKenzie said.

you don't need to ... there is a recall on the dash cluster in effect for 2003-2005 model Silverados... even if your milage warranty has expired the recall extends the range to 100,000 miles or 10 years... check with your local chevy dealer for details...
What happened is the board shorted out which signals the needle to swing over to the other end... it has caused several truck fires which is why they offered the recall... you shouldn't have any problems with getting the work done for free, but if you do call GM and speak to the tech and product assist dept... they will give you the reference number for the recall information.
Report: GM to revive 4.5-liter Duramax V8 diesel engine
According to unconfirmed reports, General Motors may be planning to revive the shelved 4. 5-liter Duramax V-8. The baby Duramax was initially intended for the light-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra but this could also spread to the heavy-duty truck lineup.
