Reading is one of the best activities we can do for ourselves. It's really a shame that the typical American reads on average one book per year. But you can do much better than that. Here are a few reasons you should read one book per week.
#1. Elevate Your Thoughts
There is an interesting thing about the way the human mind works. It is only capable of holding a single thought at a time. When you read, the author's thoughts replace your own. Without getting outside of our little bubble, we usually have the same thoughts over and over, day after day. When you read a book, you not only replace your thoughts with the author's, you replace your own thoughts with the author's choicest thoughts. Usually a book is the product of years of thinking, revising, and editing. The final product is a refined piece of art which contains the author's most deliberate and coherent thoughts. As William Ellery Channing said, "It is chiefly through books that we enjoy intercourse with superior minds.... In the best books, great men talk to us, give us their most precious thoughts, and pour their souls into ours."
#2. Not Just Any Books - Good Books
A mistake many people make is to think that they can read just any book. Since we only have a limited amount of time to read, doesn't it make sense that we should read only the best books? This is why reading newspapers or most writing which is found on the internet isn't sufficient. Most of this writing was churned out in a single day, whereas usually much more thought was put into a book. Reading mediocre books won't have nearly the advantage that reading good books will. Paxton Hood summed this up when he said, "Be as careful of the books you read, as of the company you keep; for your habits and character will be as much influenced by the former as by the latter."
#3. Visit a New Era
You might think of reading a book as akin to traveling. Through a book, you can visit and learn about far off places. If you read an old book, you can even travel back through time and learn about the past. Reading good books and travelling are probably the best ways that a person can educate his mind and get him thinking from the point of view of other people and cultures. "How many a man has dated a new era in his life from the reading of a book." - Henry David Thoreau.
Hopefully this article has convinced you that reading more books is a good idea. So what are you waiting for? Stop watching so much television and get reading!

Adding Beauty Under the Hood
True tuners may not be satisfied with simply adding wing spoilers and custom headlights to their rides. Other areas cry out for customization. One such area is the engine compartment. There are numerous ways to customize and add beauty under your hood. You will find quite a few companies manufacturing custom accessories to help you give even you engine that signature, custom look. What can you find for use in this area? What are the most popular options and what do they do? Here are a few of the top choices.
Oil filler caps: Ditch that dull and boring oil filler cap and install a true custom option. You'll find a wide array of custom oil caps, in a disparate range of colors, styles and even textures. Aluminum is a popular option and provides the widest range of color choices, while brushed stainless steel and chrome are also popular. You can choose from branded and non-branded options to suit your tastes.
Radiator Caps: Why do you need a custom radiator cap? A high performance engine generates more heat than a standard engine. You'll need a custom radiator cap to contain the excess pressure generated by your engine. However, a better option is to install a custom radiator (make sure it includes the cap); this will give you a wider range of protection and performance, keeping that engine running cooler and happier.
Sparkplug Wire Covers: In many engines, your sparkplug wires are routed across the top of the valve cover, usually hidden by a plastic cover. Billet aluminum and steel covers are available to add style and flair. You'll find brushed aluminum, colored aluminum and matte finishes available for you style needs.
Valve Covers: Your valve cover is one of the easiest things to customize under your hood. It provides a great focal point when the hood is open and can be tied in with other custom options for a full color scheme. Many tuners choose to paint their existing valve cover; however, this option can be quite time consuming. Installing a colored valve cover is a quick way to add beauty (make sure it comes with a valve cover gasket).
Sparkplug Wires: Your sparkplug wires can also have a custom look. Rather than using colored overlays (tubing) on each wire, install high performance sparkplug wires for great looks and better performance. You can find a wide range of popular colors, from red to yellow, blue, green and many others.
As you can see, there are quite a few ways to give your engine compartment a custom look that will match the rest of your ride. However, as a note, you should only choose accessories from recognized industry leaders. This is the only way to ensure the proper fit and long lasting benefits. "Universal" accessories often have a poor fit and poor function; get a product designed for your car by a professional and you'll have the benefits you need for your ride.

Can anyone tell me what Obama has accomplished in the first 10 months?
Closing Gitmo?....not closed.
Lower Unemployment?......10.2% and growing
Lowering the Deficit?......Quadrupled what Bush did.
Olympics in Chicago?.....Failed miserably.
War on Terror?.....Fort Hood ring a bell.
Universal Health Care?.....disaster in the making.
War in Afghanistan?.......needs another year to make a decision while our troops are in harms way.
Alex: This is the Libs chance......and they're failing miserably.
Alex.....get educated....no one is stoping anything passing but the Democrats. Are you really that ignorant?
Funny thing is I've asked this question a few time and no one has given any positive aspect to the Obama presidency.
Sad 3.2 years ahead.
AHHH...thanks Kimberly. You have verified liberals are retarded.
Thanks again.
Well I know what will make me feel better. Rehashing all the wonderful and inspiring moments of the previous 8 years. To go from the FANTASTIC level of success that this country was at before Obama showed up positively makes me disgusted because God knows this country was in PERFECT shape before this new president stepped in. Infact this country was in such perfect shape that I have NO IDEA how Obama won in the first place and because this country was so economically sound when Bush left office I simply can not possibly comprehend how it's so difficult for a man whose been in office for less than a year to come up with plans that will fix such a small number of problems that this country was facing at the time that he took oath.
I mean really Obama, you've got the entire country on your side and everyone wants you to succeed and you have NO opposition whatsoever, why the heck haven't you delivered on the goods?? You are after all the one who makes ALL the decisions, it's not like you have houses, and senates, and cabinets to consult or anything and even if you did I can't imagine ANYONE would disagree with what you're saying thus slowing the process down that much more. And yes, what about these troops in harms way? Why is it taking so long to get our soldiers home, SURELY it's easier to get out of a hostile country than it was to get into it in the first place. It's not like you'd have to concern yourself with how others might view a country that went to war for one reason (that proved to be false) only to turn around and leave it because you've lost (thus painting a great big huge bulls eye that says sure we can talk but we don't have the means to back it up come and invade us) in as bad a shape as it was when you got there thus making us look like hypocrites. I mean SURELY in less than a years time you should have come up with SOME way to get our soldiers out without making it look like a retreat and instead making us look as strong if not STRONGER than we were when we set foot over there to begin with. SURELY you could have had that settled sometime between settling the health care issue and having tea and crumpets with the Mrs.
Oh and let's talk about the olympics! How the heck did you NOT pull that one off?? I mean this country has proven itself to be safe time and time again and what with how WELL and incident free (except for that one bomb oh and that little voting scandal) our recent olympic hosting opportunities have been, my gosh Obama you REALLY dropped the gold medal on that one didn't you?
Obama you made all these promises. It's been nearly a year, what with the few obstacles and GOD knows they ARE practically non existant, how is it that all our problems aren't solved? Infact one or two of those problems are so easy they could have been resolved by lunch time your first day as President. What's the hold up? My stimulus check that I got this year demands it!
