how to solve window in shower unit?
1954 house.Have a SPARE bathroom with a window in shower/tub. Currently do not use the shower. Have frosted window. I do not want to ruin the window mold and rot by taking a shower. Brick on other side. Need idea's.
Could take the window completely out and block with brick or use a shower curtain (which I dearly hate this thought). I thought there could be a product to buy that installs such a problem.
I even consider this idea, but unsure this would work. Use the new type glass block they now have and install this completely in the window. Yet unsure this will be a problem of mold or insulation issues.
Surely there is a solution or a unknown installation window for such idea's. Any idea's or a product that solves my issue's?
If you're willing to remove the window and brick in wall.You will also have to Drywall and finish the inside wall. If you like the window you can repair and water proof it or replace it completely. Many windows are now made of composite materials(high tech plastics) they are durable and do not rot and they even make some that look like wood. If you do use wood, Use a good hardwood such as teak, redwood or cedar. Preparation is everything here! Before building frame, cut and prime all sides and especially the cut ends.This step will add years of protection to the wood. After installation of the window prime any exposed wood that will be painted then caulk the entire frame and any seams or cracks with a good mold and mildew resistant silicone caulk and paint as needed. Oh yeah, be sure to use a mildew resistant primer as well. If the existing wood is still in good shape,just lightly sand,prime and caulk and then paint. In shower stall use a glossy latex paint.
